Will Naughty Dog deliver another multi-award winning single player DLC?
“We rose to the challenge for The Last Of Us, so we decided we’re going to take another shot at it”.
Naughty Dog announced earlier this week that Uncharted 4 A Thief’s End will be getting a single player expansion pack. This will be the first time that Naughty Dog have done this for the series. The Last of Us expansion “Left Behind”, was the first time the studio have ever done a story expansion. The critical success of that, went on to help Naughty Dog decide to try it again for Uncharted 4.
At the GameStop Expo, Arne Meyer – “Community Strategist” at Naughty Dog stated that the developer had a positive experience with Left Behind and wanted to try again.
“It worked really well for us for The Last Of Us”. Followed by, “ We thought we could put together a really great piece of content as well” [for Uncharted 4] Meyer also revealed that Naughty Dog had been planning DLC for the Uncharted series but never could figure out the best way to do it, until now.
Specific details about the DLC are being kept secret for now, but more will be revealed at a later date. This does not stop us from speculating though.
We know that Uncharted 4 takes place three years after the events of Uncharted 3, so the DLC could fill in the gap between this time. A lead up to how this adventure began? Just like the Uncharted motion comic “Eye of Indra” was a lead up to “Drake’s Fortune”, and an awesome one at that.
A Thief’s End is confirmed to be Nathan Drake’s last adventure so if it were to be set after the events of the game, it could be featuring Drake’s brother Sam. After all, there is speculation in the community that if the franchise is to continue, then Sam would be taking over. If he lives through the game that is. Who knows, it could even be about Chloe Frazer. A character who has appeared in the series since U2, where it was hinted that Chloe and Nate had history. Going back that far in the lore may be a bit of a stretch.
The single player expansion will be released in a triple pack. The other two items will be multiplayer related.
Uncharted 4 has a release date of the 18th of March 2016
