Last-Gen Mortal Kombat X Cancelled

Does anyone care?

Mortal Kombat X was released early this year for Microsoft Windows, PS4, Xbox One even on IOS and Android. However, it was also announced that it would be coming to last-gen consoles too. A report that came out a couple days ago on the Warner Bros. forums has informed people that these versions have been cancelled. Does anyone really care that much at this point?

Whilst Mortal Kombat is a hugely successful campaign, it is not a game for the every man but has its own fan base. It may be unfair to say but I think it’s a game that people won’t feel bad about skipping and won’t feel bad because it’s not coming to last-gen. Besides if people haven’t transferred, they can always play the mobile version to tide them over and to steal their money because WB love to do that. Just like the console counterpart, it is absolutely filled with micro-transactions. I wouldn’t even put it past WB to milk the fans of their money with a collection in the future.

Now, I’m not saying that there aren’t people on last-gen who were waiting for this game – which had been delayed once already. Undoubtedly, there are more last-gen consoles in peoples homes that could have played the game but current-gen consoles are coming up to being two years old now. If people don’t upgrade this year with Black Friday and Christmas sales, then they probably won’t. Support for the old consoles is slowly dying and truthfully, developing AAA games for them are kind of a waste of resources, especially if they are being developed in house alongside the current generation consoles, just like Mortal Kombat X was. Only video game giants like the Call Of Duty franchise can really afford to developed for both (but they are not done in house) because they do realise that there are players on previous platforms but they are slowly transferring. With speculation that Black Ops 3 will be the last Call Of Duty that comes out on last-gen.

I browsed a couple of other sites to see how people were taking the news and to be honest, they were striking the final nail in the coffin for the game whilst flailing the limbless body about, which was the last-gen consoles themselves. People were actually saying and agreeing that it’s time to move on from those consoles, especially with AAA titles. Consumers and fans of the series were saying that it is a waste of money and how if all the attention was focused on current-gen, then it could of made that game so much better. It will be a sad time when our old consoles are no longer supported, but the time will come and it will be better if people, developers and publishers realise that.
